Every month Omaha hosts annual events, and these events represent our city’s culture, comradery, and community. Omaha Farmers Markets – All Month

All around Omaha, farmers markets pop up weekly to bring support to local gardeners, farmers, crafters, and vendors! These markets are pet- and family-friendly and are a great way to get outdoors. You can purchase locally grown produce while shopping for handmade goods from some of Omaha’s most talented makers. 

A few big farmers markets include the Omaha Farmers Market that’s at both Aksarben and the Old Market weekly. Village Pointe, Gifford Park, and Council Bluffs all host popular farmers markets! 

Pumpkin Patches and Apple Orchards – All Month

September marks the start of fall and the opening of pumpkin patches and apple orchards! These facilities are fun for the whole family. You can pick out fall produce, enjoy fun attractions, and indulge in classic fall treats. (Pumpkin spice and apple cider, anyone?) 

Pumpkin patches and apple orchards around Omaha include Skinny Bones Pumpkin Patch, Vala’s Pumpkin Patch & Apple Orchard, and Bellevue Berry and Pumpkin Ranch. Bring your family, your partner, or your furry friend and have a blast at the pumpkin patch. 

SeptemberFest Omaha – September 2nd – 5th

For over 40 years Omaha’s SeptemberFest has celebrated the city’s labor force. The event offers live entertainment, music, a parade, kids’ activities, a vendor fair, food, and carnival rides! The event also has a BBQ competition, a poker tournament, and a car show. People come from all over the Midwest to enjoy SeptemberFest, so don’t miss out! 

LaFesta Italiana – September 2nd – 4th 

The Omaha Italian Heritage Society hosts an annual Italian cultural festival on Labor Day weekend. Guests can look forward to authentic Italian food, drinks, activities, and entertainment! Food is really the star of the show. So, if you’re in the mood for cannoli, meatballs, or gelati, come on down to La Festa Italiana in Rockbrook Village. 

Afro Fest Omaha – September 3rd

This Labor Day event celebrates Omaha’s black community! Dance, art, food, music, kids’ activities, and a vendor market can all be expected at this exciting annual event. The music lineup this year includes Teni, Fully Focus, BM, and DJ B.EZ. And, the unique market hosts vendors selling only African and African-inspired products. Afro Fest takes place in the beautiful Stinson Park and the adjacent streets!

LOVAM Jazz Festival – September 3rd

Omaha has a thriving jazz scene. From Jazz on the Green to Love’s Jazz and Art Center, you’ll never be short of opportunities to hear the musical stylings of famous and local jazz musicians. The LOVAM jazz festival is in Turner Park, and includes top artists, local vendors, and tons of family-friendly activities and entertainment. 

HutchFest – September 4th 

If you haven’t noticed, there’s a ton to do Labor Day weekend in Omaha! Hutchfest is one of Omaha’s premier annual vendor fairs. This one combines local market shopping and brunch! There are over 150 handmade shops and vintage dealers and a whole fleet of food trucks serving brunch-style food and cocktails! Come by, grab a mimosa, play some games, and support local makers.  

Omaha Comedy Fest – September 4th

Whether you’re looking for comedy, music, or theater, Omaha’s live entertainment industry is incredible! The Omaha Comedy Fest highlights and celebrates local comedy while hosting some big names in the industry too. At the Backline enjoy stand-up, improv, sketch comedy, and legendary performances from #IMOMSOHARD and Amber Ruffin! 

Restored Wings Gala – September 8th 

The Restored Wings Gala raises awareness and money for human trafficking. This is an event where you can really make an impact by supporting Rejuvenating Women, which provides housing, therapy, and other life skills to survivors of these crimes. There will be great speakers, a silent auction, and a catered meal. 

Tacoberfest – September 9th 

Scriptown Brewing Company is hosting Tacoberfest! This evening event is all about eating great food and drinking great beer. They’ll have tacos, beer, margaritas, and pretzels for you to enjoy while you listen and dance to Sheelytown Polka Band and Los Suprimos Mariachi! It’ll be a great evening for traditional Mexican food and music. (And, there’s a little Polish heritage in there too.)

Fields of Flight – September 9th

At Ditmar’s Orchard & Vineyard in Council Bluffs, you can see dozens of hot air balloons take flight! While seeing the balloons up-close and watching them as they drift away, you can listen to live music, browse local vendors, and grab a bite at the food trucks. If you’ve never seen hot air balloons in all their glory, you won’t want to miss this!

Draftoberfest – September 10th 

It’s like Oktoberfest, but it’s totally dedicated to craft beers! Every drink will be craft style in the spirit of the festival. You’ll see collaborations with local breweries, new blends, and legendary local favorites. In addition to drinking, you can check out the food vendors, the DJ, or the polka music. It’s a one-of-a-kind Oktoberfest event!

Harvest Party at Mulhall’s – September 10th 

Mulhall’s could do a standard fall plant sale, but instead they go all-out with local vendors, live bluegrass music, and fun crafts! You can jam to Daniel and the Deliverance while browsing pop-ups like Mootz Pizza Truck, The Perennial Homestead, and Grace Gaard Creative. And, don’t leave without stopping at the honey tasting station, trying your hand at screen printing, and, of course, grabbing a new plant or two at their annual fall plant sale! 

Rockbrook Village Art Fair – September 10th

The Rockbrook Village Art Fair has been booming for over half a century! The event provides a platform for local and regional artists to showcase and sell their work. It’s a great way to celebrate the creators in our community. You can find everything from jewelry to paintings to photography to ceramics at this impressive fair!

Heartland Pride Fun Run/Walk – September 10th 

Every month in the warmer season, Omaha hosts runs that raise money and awareness for reputable charities in our community. This one is no different! This run/walk supports Heartland Pride, which seeks to create equality for the LGBTQ+ community. The event starts at Peak Performance and includes a costume contest. Have fun, and raise money for a great cause. 

One Community Cultural Festival – September 10th 

There are lots of cultural festivals around Omaha throughout the year that are dedicated to one nationality, but the One Community Cultural Festival celebrates ALL of Omaha’s diverse heritages. The goal is to create understanding, appreciation, and acceptance of other cultures while enjoying dance, song, food, and shopping! This event truly represents the unity of Omaha culture. 

Chalk Art Festival – September 10th – 11th 

Farnam Street at Midtown Crossing will become a canvas for incredible chalk art on September 10th-11th! You can stroll through the masterpieces and browse local shops and eateries. It’s a total blast and an artform that all ages can appreciate! 

Sharp Race Towards Brain Aneurysm Awareness – September 11th

This fun run/walk is for brain aneurysm awareness. They’ll provide education and raise money to support research to prevent this scary condition. In addition to the run, there will be family-friendly activities, raffles, and a silent auction. Come run for a cure! 

All-European Show and Shine – September 11th

Lauritzen Gardens has over 100 acres of flower and plant displays that are extraordinary sights as-is! But, once a year they host the All-European Show and Shine car show. There, you can see incredible European vehicles from companies like Jaguar, Ducati, and Ferrari. See both organic and manufactured beauties at this unique event! 

JLO Classic – September 11th

The Junior League of Omaha hosts the JLO Classic, but it’s for all ages! The event takes place at Top Golf, which is a unique driving range that fuses golf and entertainment. Tickets give you access to the driving competition, a delicious lunch, and snacks for the whole event. There will also be drinks, door prizes, and a silent auction. 

Walk and Run the Park for Parkinson’s – September 11th

Elmwood Park has a gorgeous half-mile paved loop perfect for an afternoon stroll and a perfect track for a 5k. So, whether you want to run, walk, or just let the kids play in the green space, this event is for you. The event will provide education, resources, and support to those dealing with Parkinson’s disease. 

German Day/Oktoberfest – September 16th 

This 2-day event celebrating German culture has been going on for nearly 140 years! It includes live music, kids’ activities, German foods, cultural dance and singing performances, and, of course, beer! Come dance to polka music, eat bratwurst, drink beer, and celebrate the rich heritage of Omaha’s German community. 

Night Market – September 16th

The Night Market at Turner Park only comes around a few times a year, and on this Friday evening, you can experience the magic! It’s a classic outdoor vendor and craft fair, but with a night time twist. As the sun sets, browse stalls of local makers, listen to live music, play outdoor games, and grab a snack at one of Midtown Crossing’s legendary eateries! 

Benson Park Family Nature Day – September 17th

This nice weather won’t last too much longer, so soak up what sun rays you can before winter comes. Family Nature Day at Benson Park helps you and your family do just that. You’ll enjoy kayaking, fishing, nature-themed activities, s’mores, and food trucks. It’s a great way to spend the night outdoors, basking in the nice weather and all the beauty our city parks have to offer. 

Omaha Superhero Heart Run – September 18th 

The Omaha Superhero Heart walk/run can be done as a 5k or 2k, and it raises awareness and money for Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). It’s at Werner Park in Papillion, and your family and friends of any age can take part. And, don’t be afraid to dress up for this totally fun run. 

Omaha Marathon – September 18th 

There are a lot of fun runs on this list for charity, but this race is the real-deal. This event takes competitors through the streets of Omaha for a marathon, half marathon, 10k, or 5k! If you’ve never been to Omaha, this race provides a beautiful tour of the best parts of our community. So, grab your running shoes and start training for the Omaha marathon!

Cowtown Jamborama – September 23rd – 24th 

Are you a swing dancing pro? Or, maybe you’ve always wanted to learn. Either way, the Jitterbug’s Cowtown Jamborama has you covered. This event celebrates the history and art of swing dancing through workshops, live music, dance parties, and more! Professional dance instructors are traveling in to teach how to dance or refine your current skills. Come learn to swing or show off your moves. 

Omaha’s River City Rodeo – September 23rd – 24th

The CHI Health Center is hosting their annual rodeo! Steer wrestling, team roping, and bull riding will keep this action-packed event moving. There will also be music, concessions, and an award ceremony for announcer of the year, clown of the year, and sound man of the year. It’s a great way to experience classic Midwestern entertainment and make lasting memories. 

Omaha Whiskey Festival – September 24th 

If whiskey is your liquor of choice, then this Omaha Whiskey Festival at the Hilton is an experience for you. This upscale event has two packages that include a catered meal, cigar lounge access, and the opportunity to sample over 70 premier whiskey brands. Come out with your buddies and find your new favorite whiskey! 

Nebraska Bridal & Wedding Expo – September 24th

Are you or someone you know getting married soon? If so, this expo is a must! It features everything you need to complete your wedding to do list! There are vendors that offer everything from jewelry to dance lessons to wedding cakes to photography. Truly, you can find anything wedding-related here. Win prizes, watch the fashion show, and dream of your perfect day!  

Omaha Connect Ride – September 24th 

The Omaha Connect Ride is a cycling event that’s not a competition, but rather an opportunity to meet others with the same passion as you. Grab your bike, meet new friends, cycle together, and listen to their inspiring guest speaker for a day of comradery and exercise! Plus, you get to cycle through our beautiful city! 

Unite Walk – September 24th

This charity walk raises funds and awareness for bleeding disorders like hemophilia. You’ll walk the beautiful Chalco Hills recreation area. In addition to the walk, there will be bounce houses, games, and the Pancake Man! Eat some pancakes, let the kids play, and then walk together to support research for bleeding disorders. 

Race for Big Dreams Memorial Run – September 24th

Stinson Park is another beautiful place for a 5k, and you can seize the opportunity to run there on September 24th. The Race for Big Dreams Memorial Run supports Children’s Respite Care Center in memory of JJ Sundy. CRCC is an organization that helps children grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and intellectually. Participate in the run, or take part in the 1-mile family fun walk! Both are for a great cause!

Railroad Days at Mile Zero – September 24th

The Union Pacific Railroad is foundational to the Omaha community. It’s at the core of our history and heritage. This annual celebration embraces that past using a fun train-themed day. Trolly rides, family-friendly activities, and interactive exhibits make this event super memorable for any member of your crew! While you’re exploring trains in downtown Council Bluffs, you can stop at some of the local bars and eateries too. 

Our Lady of Lourdes Fall Festival – September 25th 

Our Lady of Lourdes & Saint Adalbert Catholic church hosts an annual fall festival that celebrates the changing of the seasons. The event has carnival games, a beer garden, prizes, bounce houses, fair confections, face painting, playground activities, raffles, and a silent auction. It’s a fun way to spend time with the whole family. 

Nebraska Reptile Breeder Expo – September 25th

The Nebraska Reptile Breeder Expo is the biggest event of its kind in the Midwest! There are thousands of lizards, turtles, frogs, and snakes to browse and buy. Plus, you can get books, supplies, crafts, and more from the attending vendors. Whether you’re in the market for an exotic pet or just want to catch sight of these beautiful reptiles, the Nebraska Reptile Breeder Expo is definitely an adventure. 

Lauritzen Gardens Antiques Show – September 29th 

Lauritzen Gardens host so many unique events! This month, they have their annual car show and their annual antique show. This high-end antique show experience is four days long. There are upscale meals and drinks, informative speakers, and dozens of exhibitors. Whether you’re wanting to buy furniture, art, decor, jewelry, fashion, or oddities, the Lauritzen Gardens Antique Show will definitely deliver!

Junkstock Harvest Edition – September 30th – October 9th

Junkstock is a vendor and craft fair that takes the concept of a maker market to the next level! It’s HUGE. There are vintage finds, antiques, handmade crafts, local vendors, and, of course, junk! Have a blast experiencing this one-of-a-kind shopping excursion while chowing down on apple cider donuts and listening to live acoustic music. It’s partially indoor and partially outdoor at the beautiful Sycamore Farms in Waterloo, NE.
